More Creativity Exclusive Mix: Fluxxy

In classic form we present to you a fresh new guest mix from our good friend Fluxxy leading up to her performance at our first showcase of the new year on Feb. 3rd at Muchmore’s in Brooklyn. Make sure your comfortable, because for the next half hour Fluxxy will have you completely locked in! From the start she managed to capture my full attention, which I must admit is rare. In seamless transition each track compliments the next, leaving the listener on a steady course from beginning to end. Packed full of unreleased originals, Fluxxy displays a strong sense of versatility in her compositions. Within any given track you can find melodies that may range from subtle and calm, to intense and impactful in perfect balance. A balance seldom found, but highly sought after; Fluxxy sits at the top of my list for artists to look out for in 2017. Be sure to peep the track list below and stay posted for the official release of the tracks soon to come!

Can you tell us a little bit about your background in music?
I’m mostly self taught; guitar, vocals, and ableton production.. some keys if i work a little ableton magic on one to prepare it. When I started in 2013, my old friend who now produces for the duo BADNEW, Connor Schaum, mentored me heavily and I don’t think I would have had the attention span to get deep into it if he hadn’t started me with a solid base of knowledge – and I am constantly learning more from my friends. It’s amazing how this community of artists has formed that support each other’s growth in such a positive way.

Your music is so diverse and unique. I’m curious, what are a few of your major influences currently, and how do you translate these influences in your own work?
My homies Dave and Greg that I’ve been playing jazz with really informed my taste in that genre, and I’ve been pulling a lot of samples from that corner of my library lately. My coming work will be a lot more intense sound design wise, and much less sample-based. I’m hugely inspired by Tsuruda, and also my friends Michael Mason, Umru, and Zotti. It’s so crazy to me to be able to chill with and learn from people whose music means so much to me.

It seems you’re sitting on quite a bit of music at the moment. Do you have any official releases scheduled that we should be on the look out for?
Yeah, I have been holding onto a lot of music. I’ve just been making a commitment to myself and the people that support me to really take my time with my tracks and make sure I’m giving my best effort. That includes spending a lot more time designing sounds, arranging, mixing, mastering… the whole point of this project is to be constantly evolving and changing (in flux.)

I recently discovered your Instagram and it really stood out to me. Is photography a passion of yours outside of music?
I just really like playing with color palettes. I’m doing birthstones this year 🙂

I’m excited to finally get the chance to see you perform! Do you have anything special prepared for us?
It’s just gonna be a lot of originals and a lot of wonky shit… my sets are a little eclectic genre-wise. I’m also sitting on some very dope unreleased stuff from my friends that I’m v excited to drop.
