More Creativity Exclusive Mix: vide
Whenever I find myself listening to one of vide’s tracks, the first word to come to mind is always “rowdy”. Suffice to say this guest mix is exactly that, rowdy, without a single dull moment throughout. Synonymous with vide’s high energy brand of bass music, this collection of tracks features some of the best in the game right now, from Blake Skowron, sumthin smthin, all the way to Tsuruda. With so much room to grow, and an ever-growing list of absolute heaters under his belt, vide’s signature sound stands on it’s own, uncompromised and entirely unique. I can say from experience, that seeing a vide performance live proves that Ryan is bound for big things in 2017. Be sure to show vide some love when he comes through next weekend for our Cinco de Kayoh showcase at Muchmore’s, and stay tuned for more info as we get closer to the show!
Tracklist:
Q: So just looking at the tracklist I can see there’s a ton of underground music along with some IDs of your own. Could you tell us a bit about the track selection and whose music you’ve been supporting.
A: Well, derg and tsuruda are two of my biggest influences musically so you’ll never see a set where I don’t play any of their tunes. I’ve been really digging everything sumthin sumthin does, he’s been killin’ it. i’ve been also digging the halftime drum and bass stuff coming out of the UK and Europe as you can see toward the end of the mix. Of course i’m going to support my homies live, because they also make incredible music.
Q: Can we expect to see any of the unreleased tracks, or any others of yours to come out soon?
A: Yeah my ID will drop when i feel the timing is right, the one with Untitld might be out within the next two weeks or so.
Q: Who would you say are your favorite SoundCloud producers are at the moment that are currently under 10,000 followers who you think will have a big year in 2017?
A: Zotti, Milano, and Untitld. all of these kids are gonna have bright futures.
A: Well, i have a jazz background from guitar, and I’ve liked electronic music for a long time. I’ve seen it develop [over] the past few years and have kinda taken a lil piece of everything I’ve liked from the genres that have passed and mashed it all together. I really like rap music a lot, in fact that’s mainly what i listen to so the obvious trap influence in my music definitely stems from that.
Q: Coming out of Baltimore, can you tell us about the music scene over there?
A: Baltimore is strange, living there the scene is very heady-esque – lots of jam bands and psychedelic bass music. However, the rest of the world outside of baltimore knows the scene for the beat producers (tek.lun, eu-IV, j.robb, etc) but yet most the people in the local scene have no idea who they are. Being active in [the]
internet community and someone who occasionally goes out (only when my friends are playing) it’s really weird to see how the live and internet presence of baltimore have two different sides.
Q: We recently got to see your performance with rising vocalist Sophie Meiers in Brooklyn a few weeks back. The set you guys played was a little bit different than the recent tracks you put out, can we expect more music or sets like this in the future?
A: Haha, actually Soph and I wrote a whole EP the day after the set, we’re currently mixing it right now and redoing the vocals (we used a borrowed live mic, and definitely could make better source recordings), but I’m really happy about how it’s turning out. I’d love to do more sets with Sophie in the future, but as of now there aren’t any planned… yet.
Q: Last question, anything you have special planned for Cinco de Kayoh next week?!
A: If i told you that would ruin the surprise!
